Former Cox’s Bazar DC lands in jail

Shawdesh Desk:

A Cox’s Bazar court has sent former deputy commission Md Ruhul Amin to jail in a case over document forgery.

Judge of Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Court Munshi Abdul Majid passed the order, said the court’s Public Prosecutor Siraj Ullah.

Earlier, the former DC surrendered before the court, he said.

According to court sources, AKM Kaisarul Islam Chowdhury, a resident of Matarbari of Moheshkhali upazila, filed a case against 28 people including Ruhul Amin alleging misappropriation of Tk20 crore from a land acquisition process related to the construction of a thermal power plant.

The case was filed with the Senior Special Judge’s Court in Cox’s Bazar and Ruhul Amin was the prime accused.

Taking the case into cognisance, the court ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the allegation.

Then District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Sadikul Islam Talukdar allegedly excluded Ruhul Amin’s name from the case documents before forwarding it to the head office of the ACC.

After knowing the forgery, AKM Kaisarul Islam filed another case against five people, including Ruhul and judge Sadikul with a Cox’s Bazar court.

Assistant Director of the ACC’s Cox’s Bazar Integrated District Office Mohammad Riaz Uddin submitted the investigation report to the court on 1 July last year.
